Seville Cathedral and the Giralda Tower

Let’s start the list of the 10 atracciones imprescindibles de Sevilla with the most visited one – Seville Cathedral. This enormous, majestic construction is the 3rd biggest Cathedral in the world and, probably, the most impressive one.

We highly recommend you to visit this monument to enjoy its interior decorated with fascinating art treasures, such as The Capilla Mayor and its Gothic altar made of 45 panels which represent the life of Christ. You can also see the tomb of Christopher Columbus, although there are more than two more places that claim to have the explorer’s remains…

The other interesting fact to know is that this Gothic cathedral was built in place of the town’s principal mosque. The most important reminder of those times is the Giralda Tower which originally was the minaret of the mosque and today is one of the symbols of the city.

The best way to appreciate this magnificent monument is by visiting our guided tour inside the Cathedral of Seville. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn everything about this UNESCO World Heritage-listed attraction from our expert guide!

Royal Alcázar of Seville

To find the second most important monument of Seville you don’t need to go too far. Just next to the Cathedral there is The Real Alcazar of Seville. This construction is so particular and gorgeous that if you have time to visit only one sight in this marvellous city, you really should see this place!

Originally the Real Alcazar was a medieval fortress of Moorish rules. Later, it converted into the fortress and residence of the Christian kings. Even today this building serves as the official residence of the Royal Family in Seville.

The Real Alcazar is a perfect example of Mudéjar, art, and architecture style developed in the Iberian Christian kingdoms during the time of Al-Andalus. You also will be wondered by its elegant gardens, filled with palms, sweet orange trees, and colourful flowers and decorated with fountains and pools. Simply amazing!

The María Luisa Park and Plaza de España

The María Luisa Park is the most famous and beautiful in Seville. Full of many trees, flowers, and fountains, this place will seem like a wonderful oasis to you, especially after the crowd and the heat that are so normal for this Spanish city.

Inside the María Luisa Park, you will found one of the most famous monuments of Seville – The Plaza de España (“Spain Square” in English). This square consists of an enormous plaza with a monumental fountain in the centre, surrounded by semi-circular Neo-Moorish-style construction. It’s an amazing cultural and artistic experience that you can enjoy during our Monumental Free Tour.

The Plaza de España was built in 1929 for the Ibero-American exhibition and it’s easily one of the most iconic landmarks of the city. The most attentive ones will recognize this place from some popular film or TV show, like Star Wars: Attack of the Clones or Game of Thrones

The Santa Cruz district

If you are looking for the most beautiful and typical views of Seville, you can’t lose to visit the Santa Cruz district situated in the historic heart of the city. During the medieval era, this neighbourhood was the Jewish quarter and it’s characterized by its labyrinth of narrow streets, colourful houses with refreshing patios and attractive plazas where you can stop to take some coffee.

Another reason to visit this district is to learn its legends that gave birth to many famous pieces of art, like a fictional libertine Don Juan, the “Seducer of Seville” whose story became an inspiration for a 1787 opera Don Giovanni.

Metropol Parasol (Las Setas)

You have no chance to leave the monument out as this enormous modern wooden structure stands out from the cityscape. The Metropol Parasol, also known as “Las Setas” (The Mushrooms), was built in 2011 and was strongly criticized during its construction.

Today the Metropol Parasol is one of the most peculiar and the most visited monuments of Seville. Despite the construction is quite far from the traditional Andalusian style, it seems that this contemporary monument fits perfectly well with ancient Sevillian buildings.

Plaza de Toros

Today the bullfighting tradition is losing its importance in Andalusia. Nevertheless, bullfights are a significant part of Andalusian history and culture. In Sevilla, you can find one of the finest bullrings of Spain – the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla.

The bullring was built in 1761, and it’s an emblematic landmark of Seville. Within the bullring, you can find a museum with a great collection of traditional matador costumes, as well as photographs and paintings of the dramatic art of bullfighting. You can visit the museum and enter the arena with a guided tour only.

Triana district

Situated on the other bank of the river Guadalquivir, the Triana district tells us quite a different story: the story of sailors, gipsies, and flamenco artists. Here it is where the flamenco art was born in Seville and it’s also the home of authentic Andalusian ceramics.

The best way to reach the Triana district is crossing the Isabel II bridge, also known as Triana’s bridge. You may recognize its peculiar metal arch design, decorated with circles, as it’s one of the most famous views of the city.

Torre del Oro

Built-in the 13° century, this remarkable building is situated on the bank of the Guadalquivir river that makes it perfectly visible from any of the central bridges of the city. The Torre del Oro, or “Tower of Gold” was one of the defensive buildings and served as a military watchtower that controlled access to Seville via the river.

Today, the Torre del Oro houses the city’s Naval Museum. If you decide to visit the Museum, don’t lose your opportunity to see one of the best panoramic views of the city from a terrace, situated on the tower’s top.

Museo de Bellas Artes (Museum of Fine Arts)

Seville is famous for its architecture, but do you know that this city possesses the best collection of paintings in Spain after the Prado in Madrid? If you are interested in arts, the Sevillian Museum of Fine Arts should appear in your list of “must-visit” attractions.

The museum has a spectacular collection of the best paintings by famous Spanish artists, including Velázquez, El Greco, Alonso Cano, and Pacheco. You also can find the masterpieces by Murillo and marvellous works by the Seville school of the 17° century. Really impressive experience!

Casa de Pilatos

For those who want to see another great example of typical Andalusian architecture, it’s highly recommended to visit Casa de Pilatos. This building is situated in the historical centre of Sevilla and it’s believed to be a replica of Pilate’s house in Jerusalem.

Built during the 16° century, this monument is characterized by its fusion of Gothic, Mudéjar, and Italian Renaissance architecture. Casa de Pilatos invites us to travel back in time, walking through its charming gardens, marble gates, and ornate arches.
