Free Walking Tour Bratislava

Take a free walking tour in Bratislava, Slovakia with BeFree walking tours!

Free Bratislava Walking Tour

Bratislava as a tourism market was quite traditional & our company became the first in Slovakia to begin much needed innovation to a sector which was suddenly receiving visitors from across the globe. We felt that every traveler had a right to be offered an exciting, energetic, modern & knowledgeable tour no matter their budget and so we successfully introduced the concept of Free Walking Tours & Pub Crawls into Bratislava.

We’re proud of the fact that we led the way in using platforms such as Trip Advisor to add some transparency to the local market & were also the first company to have a communism walking tour, showcasing a more dramatic & controversial side of slovak history.

Today Be Free Tours offer a diverse range of tours including our original Free Walking Tours of Bratislava which include the Bratislava Castle. Our nightly Pub Crawls which explore the evolving scene of Bratislava nightlife. Our Communism Tour which leaves the Bratislava Old Town and takes guests on a journey through the remnants of the soviet era & daily realities of this fascinating period. Plus many adventure options such as AK-47 shooting, paintball or white water rafting. We hope to see you on our tours very soon!

What visitors think about Free Bratislava Walking Tour?

Loved the tour with Simona. She told all the stories with a personal touch and some sass. Charismatic tour guide with a comprehensive and informative tour for a fee you find appropriate. From old town, to the castle and everything in between. It took about 2,5 hours and gave a great introduction to Bratislava. I highly recommend!

This trip was fantastic, our guide Anna Marie was very knowledgeable. We found her stories very interesting and she was able to answer all of the questions that the group posed. Overall it was about 2 hours and we visited all main attractions. Well worth it

Frequently asked questions about the tour

What kind of tours do you offer and what is the difference between them?

We offer Original Free Walking Tour Bratislava which provides the main overview of the Bratislava sights and was the first tour that we ever offered. It provides a fun and interesting tour of the culture and history of the city as well as recommendations on where to eat and what to see in Bratislava after the tour. Some of the sites we visit are Slovak National Theatre and Reduta, Čumil (The Watcher), the Main Square, the Old Town Hall, the St. Michael’s Gate & Little Bridge, the Trinitarian Church, SNP Square, Old Market Hall, the famous Blue Church, Site of the 1968 Soviet Occupation and the Comenius University. We also offer Free Bratislava Old Town and Castle Tour which takes an alternative path through the Old Town and ends with a walk up the Bratislava castle. Some of the sights you can see there are Most SNP (UFO Bridge), Site of the Bratislava Synagogue, Jewish WWII Memorial, St. Martin’s Cathedral, Pálffy Palace, University Library, Jewish Street, City Walls, Bunker, Celtic fortress, Baroque Gardens, Bratislava Castle, Panoramic view of Bratislava etc. Apart from these two tours we also have a Communism Free Tour which takes you through the journey of life in Bratislava behind the Iron Curtain. You will be able to see the Scenes of Espionage, the Slovak National Uprising Square, the socialist district of Petržalka, Socialist Realism Statues, the Freedom Square, General Prosecutor’s Office, the biggest communist era Hotel Kyjev, Pioneers’ Headquarters – Grassalkovich palace, interesting architectural masterpiece Pyramid Radio Station and get acquainted with the Socialist Artwork & Propaganda.

What is the main difference between the Original Free Walking Tour and the Old Town & Castle Free Tour?

The main difference between these two tours is that The Original Free Walking Tour takes you on a more comprehensive journey through the sights of the Old Town and beyond (also into the New Town) and talks about Slovakia’s culture, traditions, current events, history & future. The Old Town & Castle Tour focuses more on history and includes a walk up the Bratislava castle and provides a broader perspective on the city's development.

Where is the meeting point and what happens if I come late?

The meeting point for all tours is at the statue of Hviezdoslav at Hviezdoslavovo square. Check out how to get there and the map here for further details. Our guides stay for about 15-20 mins near the meeting point since the scheduled start of the tour.

What can I see in Bratislava after the tour

Slovakia’s trump card is its nature and Bratislava is no exception offering many beautiful natural lakes and these are the best options to visit in summer. For example Zlate Piesky is a big lake where you can also try wakeboarding at the Wakelake. For a more natural lake visit Cunovo or Rusovce. Apart from that a visit to the Devin castle is a beautiful way to spend half a day. It is an ancient fortress where the two rivers Danube and Moravia meet and where you can see 3 countries at once (Slovakia, Austria and Hungary). You can go canoeing on the river Moravia. For the more adventurous there is an opportunity to go white water rafting at Divoka voda in Cunovo 15 mins from the centre of Bratislava.

What are the best restaurants in Bratislava to go for lunch or dinner after the tour?

We recommend Flagship for traditional Slovak food, restaurant & cafe Verne near the Free Tour meeting point for a nice local hangout in a bohemian place under the trees. Srdcovka Reduta also serves delicious traditional food & across the street is Prazdroj which serves the best Pilsner Urquell tank beer in Slovakia.
