Free Lviv Walking Tour

Lviv Buddy Tours was founded in end of 2016. What started as hobby of founder Peter Althaus with friends to provide visitors of Lviv some free tours to show them the old town and some unusual places of Lviv, is now the best-rated tour company in Western Ukraine. Six different guides offer at least three different Lviv free walking tours and many more routes as private tours. 

Currently there are three different Lviv free tours offered. On the Must See tour guests get to explore the best places of Lviv Old Town and learn more about the famous famous buildings and people in Lviv history and get to know great restaurants, bars and other practical tips. The Hidden Secrets Lviv free tour leads visitors to places they would never find on their own and tell them about details about the dark as well as the bright past of Lviv and how people lived especially during the Austrian and Polish rule of Lviv. Alternative Lviv is a free tour designed to bring people into the old workers district of the city, discover Lviv street art, meet local artists and see some alternative Lviv community projects that shape the face of some of Lviv's up-and-coming neighbourhoods with some grassroots development.

The free tours of Lviv that are offered by Lviv Buddy each contain a coffee break. This will make guests of the tour meet each other and also give the possibility to ask some questions to the guide that are not directly related to the free tour. I did all three of the free walking tours, led by the guide Ulyana. I'm so glad I did as there are things I saw in Lviv that I would never have seen otherwise. Ulyana is very insightful and tells wonderful stories. It's also great having time during the tour to sit down and grab a coffee or a drink and get to know everyone on the tour!

The free walking tour led by Bogdan was fantastic. In between historical data, he told us some legends and fun facts about Lviv’s famous and hidden places. He has a good sense of humour and is really helpful - showing local less touristic spots for example. Also, he considered the participants’ opinion on what to see next, when to stop or when to keep moving.

I attended 2 tours, one made by Pavlo, the other by the organizer Peter. Their English was superb, we saw many interesting places, learnt a lot of new info and at the end or middle of the tour you can enjoy Lviv famous coffee or cheap Ukrainian lunch. Also they have their own web site where you can book tours online that makes it comfortable and not too crowded. Thanks a lot, buddies!

Frequently asked questions about the tour

Where do we meet the guide for our Lviv free walking tour?

All our Lviv Free Walking Tours start at the same meeting point which is the Amphitrite Fountain on Rynok Square, next to the Pravda Restaurant (Rynok 32). Please make sure to come at the designated time for our tours, as we don't wait for more than 10mins maximum. Watch out for a WHITE umbrella with a red Lviv Buddy logo on it and ask the guide if you are with the Lviv Buddy free tour.

It's raining today, will our Lviv free tour run?

Of course it will! When the Lviv Buddy was founded, in the winter of 2016/17, some of the first tours were run by our founder Peter at -22 Celsius (in Fahrenheit that's really freaking cold!). We keep our promise and have missed only one tour in all the years since starting it. If you wanna know why, join us to find out more. We promise to meet you at the meeting point (unless it happens what happened on that one tour we missed).

What will we see on the Lviv Free Walking Tour with Lviv Buddy?

We have run countless tours of Lviv and we know the city by heart. We show you all important sights in the Old Town on our Must See tour, among which are Rynok Square, the Boim Chapel, the Jewish and Armenian Quarter and the Opera for example. On our other tours we take you outside Old Town and show you the impressive Austrian districts with amazing Habsburg architecture and introduce you to many quirky sights and give you an impression of what it is like to live in Ukraine.

Is the Lviv free tour in English?

All our Lviv free tours are currently in English. So whatever tour you join, you can't join the wrong tour :) If you want to receive a tour in another language Lviv Buddy also offers private tours in German, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian. For this visit the website at lvivbuddy.com.

How much should I tip on a Lviv free tour?

It is completely up to you if you tip at all and how much. If the guides for our Lviv free tour did a good job, you can honour this by giving them a tip of your choice. Usually we recommend to give at least 10 Euro per person or the equivalent in USD or Ukrainian UAH. But you are welcome to give whatever your budget allows and how much you liked the tour.
