Join locals for the original NUREMBERG FREE WALKING TOUR

Free Nuremberg Walking Tour

Nuremberg Free Walking Tour is welcoming you to one of the most beautiful cities of Germany. We are a group of passionate local tour guides, who want to provide you with an unique experience that’s not like any other tour. Ever since we formed in 2016, we want to give you the chance to get an insight to how life here and how history shaped the place as well is it shapes us locals.
Nuremberg is almost 1000 year old. It was the emperors of the middle ages as well as renaissance artists, who left their marks but also the Nazis in the dark area of the Third Reich.

Join our Free Walking Tour to get an overview to what the city is about. We take you to highlights of the old town such as the central market square (Hauptmarkt), the castle and the "Island of love" but also show you hidden alleys and recommendable eat-outs.
Join us on our Third Reich Tour, if you want to learn more about Nuremberg’s role as Hitler’s propaganda capital, about the bombings of WW2 and the Nuremberg trials or book a private tour if you want us to create a unique tour individually for you and your group.

If you stay longer, take a day trip to our Free Walking Tour in the charming UNESCO world heritage town of Bamberg. The Franconian capital of beer less than one hour train ride away from Nuremberg!
We’re looking forward to welcoming you on one of our tours. Give us two hours to make you feel at home!

What visitors think about Free Nuremberg Walking Tour?

This free tour was a perfect introduction to Nuremberg and it went around the key spots of the old town and some newer parts of the city. The guide was great and encourage active participation by enticing folks to respond to her questions through rewarding them with gummy bears. Highly recommended.

As Felix is not a native to Nuremberg he was able to give his view from the visitors perspective. The balance between facts and figures with stories and theories was perfect. I'll remember the stories long after I've forgotten dates and figures.

Steffi gave us a wonderful tour in the old town. As an art student herself, she was able to give details about architectures and especially about works during renaissance artists. We were so interested by her story telling and super happy about this nice walking tour on a warm sunny spring day!

Frequently asked questions about the tour

What will we see during the Free Tour in Nuremberg?

We start the tour on the central market square, the beating heart of the city and make our way up to the castle, it's historical core. On the way we introduce you to the city's most famous son, Albrecht Dürer, who was one of the most influential renaissance painters of all time. We take you to the "Island of Love"; for the best photo opportunities as well as to the iconic gothic churches "St. Sebald" and "St. Lorenz"; while not leaving out the recent history of the WW2 bombings and the Third Reich.

How do I find the meeting point and the guide?

We meet at the beautiful golden "Schöner Brunnen" monument, next to Hotel Saxx. The monument looks like a church spire and is visible from afar. You can recognize us by our WHITE AND GREEN UMBRELLAS. Your guide arrives about 15 minutes prior to the tours start.

Do I have to make a booking for the Free Tour in advance?

The cool thing about our Free Walking Tour is, that you can just come to the meeting point and join! Generally, there's no reservation required. However, sometimes, it can become quite crowded. To ensure safety, health and quality on our tours, we limit the group size to 25 people and prioritize guests with reservations. Therefore we recommend to make a booking if you're visiting on a weekend or during the Christmas Market in December. For big groups (+8 people), a private tailored tour allows you more flexibility.

Who is this tour for?

The tour is suitable for all ages and can also be visited with a wheelchair, pram or dog. Everyone is welcome! Please make sure you dress accordingly to Germany's ever changing weather, bring water and sun protection. No matter if it's your first time in the city or if you're a local just like us - you'll have fun and learn something new.

Does the tour get cancelled due to bad weather?

Sometimes its windy, it rains or gets super hot. Also German winters are freezing cold and long, but we have never had to cancel a tour due to the weather. Once the whole group had to stop in a café because the rain was too heavy, but we finally continued the tour.
