The Jewish Quarter of Córdoba is part of the historic centre of the city, which was declared a World Heritage site in 1994. It is the ideal place for learning about Sephardic culture; the Spanish Jews who lived there before their expulsion in 1492. Córdoba's Jewish Quarter is part of the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain, which is a non-profit association with the aim of protecting urban, architectural, historical, artistic and cultural Sephardic heritage in Spain.

This tour will show you some of the main places and museums of Sepharic Culture in Córdoba, including:

1. The Synagogue: From 1315, until their expulsion in 1492, the Jewish community of Córdoba prayed inside this iconic structure. It is located at the entrance to the quarter, on Calle Judíos. It is one of the last three synagogues that continue in Spain (both of the others are in Toledo). It is inspired in the Islamic art (or the mudejar style) and after the expulsion of the Jewish community it had different forms of use.

2. Casa de Sefarad: also known as the House of Sepharad, is a museum located on Calle Judíos, in close proximity to the Synagogue. It portrays the history of the Jewish community in Spain through its exhibits and artefacts. In its rooms there are different expositions and objects regarding religion, music and the day to day experiences of Sepharic life. Also, there is a courtyard with information about the role of the historic Sepharic women of al-Andalus.

3. Tiberíades Square: In this square you can meet one of the most iconic figures of our city: Rambam (Maimónides). Doctor, rabbi, philosopher… he is a perfect example of someone who was forced to abandon his home in the twelfth century as a result of religious persecution.

As well as taking your picture with Rambam, many locals and visitors like to touch the statue due to an infamous legendary tale that our guides will be glad to tell you.

4. Plaza de la Corredera: Situated close to Potro Square (or Square of the Colt) is the famous Plaza de la Corredera de Córdoba. Built in 1683, it is an imitation of Plaza Mayor in central Madrid. Today it is a place for enjoyment, but historically the Acts of Faith were celebrated here during the Spanish Inquisition. Sadly, a significant number of people suffered in this square through public execution.

5. Casa de las Cabezas: The House of the Heads museum is dedicated to the daily life of the Middle Ages. Is a perfect example of Christian architecture containing an Islamic inspiration. There is also a revenge based legend pertaining to the house regarding noble historic Castilian families: Lady Lambra and the seven sons of the Lara clan.

Additionally it is a place containing strong connections with the city's Sephardic past and the Inquisition. Juan de Córdoba de las Cabezas, the owner, was Jewish but only in secret. He was believed to have used the cellar as a synagogue, which is now open to visitors.

6. Casa Mazal: In this restaurant you can delight in the tasty recipes of Sephardic cuisine in the original neighbourhood of this culture (located on Calle Tomas Conde and Calle Velázquez Bosco).
